Program/University Overview:
University College Dublin is Ireland's premier university comprising 5 colleges and 35 schools. Its student population is approximately 22, 000. The main campus of the university is in Belfield, a 132 hectare site 4 km south of the center of Dublin.
UCD was founded in the mid 19th century as the Catholic University by Paul Cullen and John Henry Newman. In 1881, under the Royal University Act, the university was renamed University College Dublin. Today UCD is an autonomous university within the National University of Ireland. Among the professors of UCD was the poet Gerard Manly Hopkins and among its most famous students was the writer James Joyce.
UCD Quinn School of Business is one of the 35 schools of the UCD.

Unique Aspects of Program:
UCD is the largest and most renowned business school in Ireland. Its degree is recognized as one of the best undergraduate business qualifications in the world. A range of over 50 courses is available.

Ireland has a population of 3,744,700 (1999 estimate), with Dublin, its capital city, having a population of 953, 000.
The country enjoys a relatively mild climate with average monthly temperatures ranging from 7°C in January to 19°C in July.
The country's total area is 84,412km squared with a total coastline distance of 3,172km.
The Irish language evolved from Celtic immigrants around 600 BC. The language survived the introduction of the linguistic diversity of both the invading Vikings and Normans down through the centuries.
In 1923 the first government of the Irish Free State was led by William T. Cosgrave The modern word Ireland derives from a combination of the Gaelic "Éire" with the Germanic word "land".
The National Flag is a tricolor of green, white and orange. The green represents the older Gaelic and Anglo-Norman element in the population, the orange the Protestant supporters of William of Orange, while the white represents a lasting peace between the two traditions. First flown as an emblem of the Young Ireland movement of 1848, the flag did not come into popular use until after the 1916 Rising.
The National Day of Ireland is St. Patrick's Day, celebrated by Irish communities all over the world on 17th March. Ireland is a parliamentary democracy.
Dublin is the capital and largest city of the Republic of Ireland (and largest city on the island of Ireland located near the midpoint of the east coast. Originally founded as a center for the Viking slave trade, the city has been Ireland's capital city since medieval times. The population within the city boundary was 495,781 at the census of 2002. .
Dublin is a major cultural centre in Ireland and the origin of many prominent artists and writers such as James Joyce, Oscar Wilde, Samuel Beckett, and George Bernard Shaw.

Study Abroad students are automatically registered for an Irish History and Culture module. Due to class sizes being capped, students are not automatically guaranteed entry into their first few preferred choices. Although every effort will be made to offer students their first choices, it may be necessary to move down their list of preferences if classes are unavailable.
Housing:
Both campus and off-campus accommodation is available. Accommodation in Belfield consists of three and four bedroom self-catering apartments. Quinn School of Business can't guarantee on campus accommodation for all international students. www.ucd.ie/newstudent/
Cost:
If you are a student at one of the US Lasallian universities or colleges, you will remain enrolled at your school and pay tuition and program fees there. Tuition is based on your campus tuition rates and may include an additional surcharge depending on the program. Contact the person on your campus responsible for study abroad.
