Program/University Overview:
Seville, a beautiful and ancient city on the banks of the Guadalquivir River, is known for its Moorish palaces and renaissance gardens, flower-decked patios, paintings, statues, flamenco dancing and music. The Center for Cross-Cultural Study facilitates a true cross-cultural exchange by inviting students to expand their world-view through intense immersion into the Spanish culture. The Center is housed in two turn-of-the-century mansions in the heart of Seville's commercial and social center. CC-CS is a short walk from the University of Seville, and some of Spain's most glorious and historic sites, including the Catedral and Giralda (the symbol of Seville), the Torre del Oro, the Alcazar palace, many museums and the beautiful Guadalquivir River. Seville is also located within an hour and a half of the Costa del Sol and its sunny beaches.

Unique Aspects of Program:
Some features of the program include: native Spanish professors; low student-professor ratios; on-site Resident Director and staff; internship, volunteer, and community service opportunities; CC-CS scholarship program; all-inclusive day and overnight study trips; three-day weekends for travel; and monthly parties for American and Spanish students.

Location
Spain is located in Southern Europe and is the largest of the three sovereign nations that make up the Iberian Peninsula - the other two are Portugal and Andorra. Seville is the capital and largest city of the region of Andalusia in southern Spain on the banks of the Guadalquivir River. It has a population of about 800,000 in Seville proper and about 1 million when including the urban area. Seville is known for its traditions of flamenco dancing, bullfighting, colorful fiestas, and wonderful cuisine.

Climate
Spring and fall are ideal times to be in Seville, with a temperature around 68°F (20°C). The summer is usually very hot with an average temperature of 93°F (34°C).

Time
When Central Standard Time is in effect in the United States, Spain is seven hours ahead.

Currency
The currency in Spain is the Euro.

Admission Requirements:
To be eligible, you must have completed 2 semesters or the equivalent of completion of elementary college level Spanish and have a 3.0 GPA in Spanish course work.

Courses Offered:
You have the choice of either participating in the Intensive Intermediate Program in Spanish Language & Culture or the more advanced Upper Division Spanish Studies Program. One semester in the intensive intermediate program includes a one-year course in intermediate college Spanish. Fall semester intermediate students may continue in the upper division Spanish program during the spring semester. Both programs offer courses in the areas of Spanish civilization, literature, political science, economics and current events.

Housing:
You have two housing options: homestays and student residences. A homestay gives you a unique insight into Spanish culture by allowing you to become part of a Spanish family. A homestay includes full room and board as well as laundry and the cleaning of your room. The same-sex student residences house mainly Spaniards and provide you with full room and board. The common areas have refrigerators, microwaves, washing machines, computers with Internet access and TVs for use at no extra charge.

Cost:
If you are a student at one of the US Lasallian universities or colleges, you will remain enrolled at your school and pay tuition and program fees there. Tuition is based on your campus tuition rates and may include an additional surcharge depending on the program. Contact the person on your campus responsible for study abroad.

Scholarship Information:
CC-CS has a scholarship program that is open to all participants. Awards recipients are chosen based on the submission of an original essay in Spanish, an essay in English, and a faculty recommendation. Students may receive awards up to $2,500.
